Delicious Planet Detox Program

Thank you for your interest in the Delicious Plant Detox Program!

Clients repeatedly tell us that this is a life-changing experience. Most experience weight loss, clearer thinking and a substantial decrease in cravings for sugar, fat, salt, etc. After cleansing the system of junk foods and potential allergens, clients experience sustained results as they tend to choose much healthier foods even after completion of the Detox program.

Our program is offered every week. The program lasts 3 weeks, but clients can choose to do any or all of the weeks. Delicious Planet supplies all the food, instructions, suggested menus, snack suggestions and limited telephone support, but recommends doing the program for 3 weeks and being under the guidance of a Naturopath or Nutritionist for optimal results.  The price is $299 per week.  That comes out to $43 a day, 3 deliveries each week, Monday-Wednesday-Friday. A smokin' deal!

About the food: Delicious Planet offers a meat-based version (has fish, poultry & vegetarian entrees) and a vegetarian version. A sample menu is included with your first detox delivery, but the actual food may vary depending on the season. This is not a calorie restricted diet. This is an organic, nourishing, nutritious, high-fiber program designed to be free of most common food allergens – dairy, gluten (wheat, etc.), soy egg, and citrus. Clients abstain from caffeine and alcohol while eating gourmet detox food. Luckily it ends up being a weight loss program for those who have some excess pounds hanging around.

Psycho-emotional Preparation:

1.       You and your health are number one on your priority list! Try to arrange your work, study, or daily schedule so you can manage the changes in your diet without causing yourself too much stress. This is a very special time of your life to nurture and take care of yourself. If possible cut down on your workload, take on less responsibilities or projects. Try to put things off as much as you can unless they are critical, essential, or urgent. Remember- this is your time to heal and slow down so make it a high priority.

2.       Take time to learn about this process and make it a fun adventure. This is a good opportunity for you to expand your knowledge and horizons on food varieties and to learn sbout different ways of food preparation. You will be surprised at what you can find that will be more healthful and different from what you are used to eating.

3.       If a friend or family member seems interested, have them do the detox diet with you.

4.       Practice relaxed deep breathing exercises twice daily. Before rising in the morning and falling asleep in the evening are often the most convenient times.

5.       Whenever you feel frustrated, either because the diet seems too structured or restricted, stop and refocus on your feelings and goals: What am I feeling now? Why am I feeling this way? What is the purpose of all these changes? What was the reason I started on this program? Am I taking good care of myself now? Do I feel resistant to the changes? What do I need to do next? What should happen next for me to achieve my goals? Things can be challenging at times because we are all trying to do everything, be everywhere and be responsible to others. What happens to the responsibilities to yourself? You owe yourself that much. You have decided to invest your time and effort into this healing process, do it whole-heartedly! If you feel distracted from your goals and become unfocused on what you are doing, then reach out for support from friends and family. Don’t forget to take time to slow down and relax, and through that moment of stillness, you will find peace and the answers.

Why Detoxify?

Toxic chemicals abound in the world today-they easily find their way into our body through the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. We also ingest foreign chemicals when taking medicinal or illicit drugs, or when using alcohol or tobacco. Although the body is designed to eliminate toxins, it cannot always handle the overload present in today’s environment. Our bodies absorb and then excite the water soluble chemicals to which we are exposed. The fat soluble chemicals are absorbed, but not excreted. They accumulate in our fat cells and cell membranes and become internal toxins. When the body is under stress, it releases those chemicals from the fat to circulate in the bloodstream.

Toxins not only come from external sources, they are also produced from within the body during normal metabolism. Nutritional imbalances, insufficiencies and food allergies can compromise detoxification pathways, allowing the progressive build-up of toxins to impose a significant and sometimes overwhelming burden on the body.

When the body experiences an overload of toxic substances, the consequences can manifest in a number of way: headache, muscle and joint pain, fatigue, irritability, depression, mental confusion, fibromyalgia, gastrointestinal tract irregularities, cardiovascular irregularities, weight gain or loss, flu-like symptoms, or allergic reactions including hives, stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, and coughing. In addition to these symptoms, it has shown that toxic overload also contributes to more serious conditions such as autoimmune diseases including inflammatory and rheumatoid arthritis, neurological disease such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and cancer.

It is believed by nutritionally oriented health care practitioners that specific food allergies are related to metabolic toxicity. Symptoms from apparent food allergies may result from reduced enzyme concentrations and from intestinal bacterial endotoxins. One classic approach to eliminating or minimizing symptoms associated with food allergies is using a hypo-allergenic diet or the detoxification diet. Foods most commonly to blame for causing symptoms of a food allergy or toxicity are gluten containing gains, dairy products, soy, caffeine, yeast, and citrus fruits. Avoidance of these foods has lead to relief of symptoms in many individuals. By reintroducing these foods back into the diet individually; one is able to see clearly how their body reacts to that food.

The detox program is designed to support the liver’s detoxification pathways and to improve intestinal health so that the body can clear out excess toxins and operate at its highest potential. A variety of nutrient dense, high fiber foods are conveniently prepared for you, taking the guesswork out of wondering what is okay and not okay to eat. Time that would be spent grocery shopping, preparing meals, and doing dishes is made free for you to relax or take part in activities that you enjoy.

Food Allergies

There are several theories about why someone develops allergies. Among these is that repetition or over-consumption of the same food leads to the development of an allergic reaction. It has been observed that many people will be able to tolerate most foods as long as a food is not eaten too frequently. Variety is key. By adding new foods, such as different fruits, grains, vegetables, legumes and meats, you will expand the number of foods that you commonly eat and get a broader spectrum of nutrients.

Finding out whether or not you have a food allergy is an important first step in correcting present health problems and preventing future chronic diseases. Your immune system is there to protect you from illness, so it is best not to busy it by eating foods that cause reactions in your body that it will have to react to and fight. You will need a strong immune system to be ready when you need it – for the bigger stuff that comes along! The nutritious meals prepared for you while on the detoxification program are free of the most common food allergens, giving you a head start on experiencing optimal health.

What are food allergies?

Nutritionally oriented physicians believe that food allergies are the leading cause of most undiagnosed symptoms and contribute to most chronic diseases. Common foods eaten by most people can produce a variety of physical and mental symptoms. Much has been learned about treating food allergies once they have been discovered. With great patience and good detective work, many people are able to discover the offending food items. In other cases you may want to consult with a physician regarding your health concerns.

People who react to certain food intolerances produce a variety of milder, annoying symptoms which linger and recur. Such symptoms as sinus congestion, headaches, chronic fatigue, skin rashes, some forms of acne, asthma, and colitis are fairly common physical reactions. Mental and emotional problems are common as well. This is because the brain and nervous system are part of the physical body, susceptible to physical as well as psychological influences. Depression, anxiety, irritability, and hyperactivity in adults or children are often caused by chronic food intolerances. There is a long list of symptoms that can be tied directly to our diet.

How can you tell if you have a food allergy?

The most accurate method of detection involves removal of all foods which commonly create problems-dairy, wheat, corn, eggs, and soy and depending on your symptoms the nightshade vegetables (potato, tomato, peppers, and eggplants). Out detox program does not remove the nightshade family. Then slowly and individually, reintroduce a different food and watch for the return of symptoms.

If your food allergy is limited to one or two types of foods, simply eliminating these foods from your diet will often relieve your symptoms. In time you may be able to add these foods back into your diet on an occasional basis. It is beneficial to learn how to eat a wider variety of healthy food, and systematically rotate food groups. See a nutritionist for guidance on this. It is a complex process and your health can really improve if this is done correctly.

Systems of Detoxification

The five major systems of detoxification are the liver, gastrointestinal system, skin, lungs, and the kidneys. As with all other aspects of the human body, one organ or system is not isolated from the other. By following the detoxification program, all systems are supported.

Liver: The liver is the major organ for elimination of toxic wastes. It processes all the foreign chemicals to which we are increasingly exposed to every day. Many chemicals are lipid-soluble. Liver cells have lipid membranes through which these foreign chemicals can enter. These cells can store toxins for months, even years. Using a complex system of enzymes, the liver transforms these toxic chemicals into water-soluble compounds. They can then be released and eliminated from the body through the kidneys and GI tract. Hormones such as estrogen and testosterone are also metabolized in the liver. Dysfunction of the reproductive cycle and changes in mood can result if the liver is unable to process hormones properly. Signs of a poorly functioning liver are poor digestion, gas, constipation, frequent headaches, skin problems, and irritability. In Chinese Medicine, the liver is the home of the emotion, anger. Some believe that detoxing can rid the body of excess ang-grrrrrr!

GI System: The GI system has various defense mechanisms against bacteria, viruses, yeasts, parasites, and toxins. It is protected by enzymes, mucus, normal intestinal bacteria and intestinal secretions. A diet rich in organic vegetables, fruits, and whole grains provide needed fiver to ensure proper elimination.

Skin: A good exercise program consisting of at least 30mins. Per day of an aerobic workout assists in the elimination of toxins through perspiration and increased circulation. The regular use of dry skin bruching and saunas are a great way to achieve similar results.

Kidneys: The kidneys filter blood and drain wastes and are important in eliminating water soluble chemicals. In addition, they regulate ph balance, calcium metabolism, electrolyte balance, and extracellular volume. Drinking plenty of filtered water is necessary for proper elimination through the urinary system.

Lungs: The lungs have the greatest exposure to the environment. Gases, small solid particles, and liquid aerosols can easily enter the lungs and be deposited. The lungs have immune responses and antioxidants to protect them against inhaled organisms. They secrete mucus and contain enzymes to metabolize harmful substances. We can often get stressed and forget to breathe slowly and deeply for not only relaxation, but for detoxification.

Suggested Menu

This is just a suggestion of what to eat and when. Also, see the sample menu at top:

Breakfast is one of our delicious cereals, and is great with the fresh cut fruit.  Lunch is either a small salad with soup, or a large salad. Veggies w/Dip & Whole Apples are included to snack on, and you can have your dessert after your dinner entree. Don’t feel overwhelmed if you can’t finish it all – we send you plenty so that you don’t feel deprived. Stay well hydrated with plenty of filtered water, and herbal teas that are caffeine free are fine. We’ve included a lemon to squeeze or add a slice into your water that will help to enhance your detox process. The citrus you have to omit on this diet is grapefruit and oranges as they are potential allergens. Lemons & Limes are detox approved. If you have not already signed up for your next week of detox please do so by our cut off time, of 4:00pm every Sunday. So you can receive your delivery on Monday. We hope that you will consider joining us for the full 3 weeks. All 3 weeks is a great, thorough detox for your body.

Why all 3 weeks? Week 1 is about your body adjusting to this pure food and you might not feel so great. The good bacteria is starting to flourish, the bad bacteria and yeasts are dying off and it can make you feel a little gassy, sluggish, sickly. Week 2 things are easier and you may even notice some weight loss. Week 3 and your skin and overall feeling should be quite pleasing. I like to say that I am “HIGH on LIFE” by Week 3. By the end of this you have re-trained your taste buds to crave less salt, sugar and fat. After getting some great results, you tend to make better choices for quite a while. A good detox keeps me on track for a few months afterward. I certainly go back to a less extreme diet after a while, but I don’t over-do things as much. Naturopaths/ Nutritionists recommend the 3 week plan to make a significant impact with liver cleansing and to specifically address potential food allergens and sensitivities. 3 Weeks away from offensive foods will heal over your gut permeability (for those who may have this), but not entirely. This way, if you intend to “challenge” foods back into your diet (see your doctor for guidance), you will still get a reaction that will let you know to stay away from that food in the future. If you heal completely over, you won’t realize that a certain food is the “culprit” causing your ongoing problems and then you might go back to eating everything again and not realize which “culprit” (Gluten? Dairy? Soy?) you should now be omitting for your diet.

The Detox Process

First, we removed ingredients that are typically associated with common food allergies and sensitivities. Foods such as dairy, eggs, soy, and wheat have been shown to trigger subtle sensitivities in a number of people. These sensitivities can place an additional strain on our bodies’ natural detoxification processes. Elimination such foods frees our bodies from possibly having to manage those sensitivity reactions and allows us to focus on detoxifying other substances that have been residing within our bodies.

Second, many of the ingredients we incorporate into our detox menu have been shown to directly support liver function, the main site of detoxification within our bodies. Ingredients ranging from milk thistle seeds to turmeric to bitter greens and dandelion have all been shown to further support our livers’ detoxification processes.

Finally, our Detox Program utilizes a variety of plant-based, nutrient-dense foods. Not only are many vitamins and minerals are essential for adequate detoxification but the metabolic process of detoxification can increase our requirements for many of those micronutrients. To support those increased demands, we have designed our menu to incorporate as many of those essential nutrients as possible, whether they function as antioxidants or as co- factors for critical enzymatic processes.

By removing many common allergens, incorporating liver supportive ingredients into our menu, and ensuring that our Detox Program will fully support you and your goals during this post season cleanse.
